Snow, Page 4

So pretty so far.  Started June 24 and finished July 26.  7372 stitches.

Sometimes it's hard to put a project down when I come to the end of a page.  For me, this was one of those times.  That lovely face is just starting to show and I want to work on her more until she reveals herself fully.  But that would mean Adrift takes a back seat again, and I'm getting closer and closer to that last row, that I have to pull her out and work on her.  And being that she is getting close to the end of the row, and the final row, I'm sure I'll feel the same way when it comes to the end of her page.
Right now work is interfering, as it always does, with my stitching time.  But work means I can afford more projects.  Therefore work = good!!!

I was just visiting my sister in Washington State and she has the prettiest oasis in which to stitch outside.  I wish I'd taken a photo.  It was in her back yard, around a garden path where she had a lovely little set up, complete with hammock and chairs and a little table.  Her husband served as out Cabana boy and served up drinks while we stitched the afternoon away.  It was one of the loveliest afternoons stitching that I've ever had.

I wish I had something clever and witty to say at this point, since my posts are sparse, but this heat is sapping my energy, so I guess I'll just offer this update with little fanfare, and I hope to see you in a month or so with Adrift.

  1. She is so beautiful! It must be nice feeling so motivated to work on these large projects and not wanting to put them down.

    1. The trick, for me, is to only have 2 projects on the go. Even when the muse for a project leaves, if I want to stitch, then I make myself work on whatever project happens to be on the frame. Eventually I work my way through the funk and get back in the saddle. Whenever I can see a light in a tunnel, which I can now see on Adrift, the urge to just sit and stitch that pattern is so strong, it's hard to fight. But because I have a deadline for Snow, I have to plug away at both projects.
I guess what I am meaning to say, in a very unsuccinct way is, I just love to stitch. It doesn't really matter to me on what.

    1. Thanks, Katie. I think I should have a finish sometime in the new year. But she is definitely getting close now!

  3. That's so cool that you share stitching with your sister. Sounds like a great afternoon especially with the services of a cabana boy at your disposal. I am the complete opposite of you. When I finish a page I can't wait to start something else. But saying that I wish I was more like you and then I may have a chance at finishing something LOL! Snow looks beautiful. I feel icy cold when looking at her, in a good way though. xox Alicia

    1. My sister is the one who taught me to cross stitch when I was a teenager. I'd always done embroidery on stamped patterns, but never a cross stitch. She had actually put down her needle for a few decades, but it's nice to see her stitching again. It's fun to arrange stitching dates with her. She lives about 8 hours away, so we've met halfway before and spent the day in a hotel stitching. I think we're going to plan to make a regular thing of it.

  4. That's a realy beautiful stitching! If this wip "calls you" you only have to answer, with one little cross after the other, until you're satisfied... Or until another wip reclaims your attention!

    1. I only have 2 to choose from, and that is a very purposeful decision. I couldn't imagine having multiple wips, no matter how badly I want to start something. I think I'd spend all my time trying to figure out what to work on. I have to limit myself to two. I fear I know myself too well.

  5. That sounds like a wonderful afternoon.
Snow is gorgeous! It looks like you won't have any problems finishing her on time. Speaking of which, are you going to be doing the finishing work yourself?

    1. It was such a lovely afternoon. I'm really kicking myself for not getting a photo of her little outdoor nook.
Alas no, I won't be doing the finishing sewing for the stockings. I'm completely useless with a sewing machine.

    2. Do you mail it out to someone or collaborate with someone local? Affiliated with a LNS? I'm just curious what people who don't sew do when they have a finished object that requires it.

If you'd said you were planning to do it yourself I would have been just as curious to know what you planned. I sew quite a lot but I've never done anything with a cross stitched piece. I'm sure it's really just like sewing anything else, but since so much effort is already invested in its creation it feels like a much bigger deal!

    3. I have a few friends that sew, but I've since found a lady who has a "finishing" business, specifically for cross stitch items, specializing in stockings. I'm going to use her. I just supply the backing fabric and drop it off.

    4. That's very cool. Does she have a website or anything?

  6. Beautiful progress! Does the heat feel a bit cooler since you're stitching ice? ;)

    1. Ha ha ha. Very clever pun. The heat feels cooler since I got a Dyson Fan and planted that sucker right in front of me!
