Adrift, Page 27

The beginning of the tail's end.  It's a lot darker than the rest of the tail, understandably, as it's in deeper and darker water, so I thought I'd add a photo of the work in progress, so you get a bit more detail than what actually shows up in the finished page.

For this page, the biggest challenge was packing her up and putting her away in favor of Snow Stocking.  The end is getting close and the urge to just sit and stitch her is almost overwhelming.   But pack her up, I did.  If I want to hope to finish Snow Stocking this year, I have to work on her.
And I'm going in to the busy time of year where my stitching time gets seriously eaten away at.  I'm hoping to have an update by August for you.  Fingers crossed.

On another note, I've been listening to the audiobook of Game of Thrones.  I love reading, but when it comes to free time, I'd much rather stitch, so it's been a while since I've had a really good book engulf me.  Until now.  Do any of you listen to audiobooks when you stitch?  I'm so engrossed in this book, I'm about 25 hours in (it's a really BIG book) and I find the time just goes by in a blink of an eye.  2 of my favourite pastimes combined.   Add a purring cat on my legs and life is just about perfect!!

Now I'm off to bed to sleep the day away so I can be ready for graveyard shift.  A drizzly day and a purring, snuggly cat beckoning me to bed.  It couldn't be a better day to sleep away.

Goodnight, kindreds. I hope to see you all soon.

  1. I'm nearly always listening to audiobooks when I stitch. I love it! I listen to a lot of cozy mysteries, but throw in some fiction and non-fiction as well to mix things up. I get them all through my library. It's funny to me what a difference the narrator can make. It might be a perfectly wonderful book, but if I don't like the way it is read I can't do it. On the flip side of the coin, I will listen to a book that isn't all that fantastic if I love the voice.

You make think maybe I should finish out the ASoIAF books on audiobook rather than reading them. I read the first four but haven't done A Dance with Dragons yet.

    Adrift looks gorgeous!

    1. I've only got two more hours to listen to on the first book and then it's on to the next. I'm absolutely in love with audio books. And yes, you're absolutely right, the narrator makes ALL the difference! I wish I'd thought of this sooner!

  2. OH my -- I can see why packing her up is so difficult. Shes lovely. And audio books are some of my best friends! They are the perfect stitching buddy -- they don't get your fingers dirty (like snacks), they don't make you look up (like TV), they don't interrupt with questions (like families), and they don't draw your attention away like stitching groups ;-)

    1. I used to watch documentary films on youtube, because I could stitch and listen. But audiobooks are far, far better!

    1. It was hard, Justine. Plus, I'm not enjoying Snow as much as I thought. I'll still plug away and get her finished, but she hasn't grown on me the way Adrift has.

  4. I listen to audio books when I run, makes me forget about how much I'm hating every step that I take.
Your mermaid looks fantastic, I'm insanely jealous of your progress!

    1. I don't run, but I have a treadmill that I walk on. Maybe I should try audiobooks there too. Great idea!!

  6. Great progress! I tend to not listen to audiobooks because my mind tends to wander easily and I can't stay focused enough to concentrate on the text, especially when I'm doing other things. I usually keep the TV on and watch DVDs of things I've watched before so I'm not missing anything I haven't already seen.

    1. I have lots of help with making me stay on point. Like ezpdf and goodreader. (Ezpdf has a better search option where I can highlight all of one symbol on the page - works better on my old, barely working iPad than my new one) So I'm pretty much free to let my mind wander into Westeros.

  7. Beautiful!! Just love watching these grow. I used to LOVE reading. Since I've become addicted to cross stitching I don't take time for it. I haven't tried an audio book. I bet I would enjoy it.

    1. Do you have any audiobook favourites? I'm well into book 2 of Game of Thrones. I don't know why it took me so long to combine my two favourite things!
