First off, an apology for taking so long to update my blog, almost a year!

The curse of 2020 hit me like a Mack truck and in spring I was diagnosed with breast cancer. So surgeries and then treatment has consumed my life this year. Ladies, I can’t stress enough the importance of mammograms. Mine was caught on a routine mammogram. It was caught early, which is good, but even in the early stage the cancer was an aggressive type. So I continue to slog through treatment and hope for the best. I’m currently undergoing chemo and in the new year I will undergo radiation. I will be on medication for the next 5 years and I hope fervently that this is just a bump in the road and not a carousel ride.

My stitching was affected, naturally, but I do have a finish to share with you.

This lovely is called Harp Angel and she is for my grand niece. I chose her because of her red hair, something she has in common with the little girl who will own her. This pattern had the worst confetti out of any pattern I’d ever done. I ended up stitching on the diagonal, something I’d never done before, and parking, but going row by row, which is also something I’d never done (the row by row, not the parking). As a result, the progress was sloooow. I would try to average 200 stitches a sitting, but even that was hard sometimes. To say I am glad that I am done this project is an understatement. My hat is off to all of you working on a Josephine Wall pattern. This one gave me a run for my money.

I’m back to working on my old friend, Wind Moon. I want to get at least a row done on her before I start a new project, which I haven’t yet decided on.

This may be my only post for 2020, but I will post an update of Wind Moon when I get to the end of the row. I’m currently averaging about 1000 stitches a day.

Well that’s all I’ve got to report at this point. I hope it won’t be too long before you hear from me again.

I hope you are all staying well and avoiding Covid. I feel like our hobby has prepared us for long nights in, watching TV and stitching. We’ve got this, kindreds! We’ve got this!

Rai Rai's Stitcheshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00864311481716163988noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6856235367398509299.post-20893209988829698882019-12-29T21:53:00.001-08:002019-12-29T21:53:57.496-08:00Last Post of 2019And I have a page finish. This makes 26 HaED page finishes this year, plus two Christmas stockings. All in all not a bad year of stitching.

This is page 24;9& Wind Moon, started December 14 and finished December 29 for a total of 7520 stitches.

I’m going to put Wind Moon away for a while now but I promise she won’t be in hiding for a full year before I work on her again. I am hoping to work on her regularly this coming year.
I’m going to take a small break from HaED and work on another. Christmas stocking. It’s for my sister and she has a great love of owls.
What an end to what has been a crazy, busy year. We sold a house, we bought a house, we moved, we landscaped, we planted. I’m looking forward to seeing the fruits of our labour in 2020.

Thanks to all who visited my little room on this vast and endless internet.

I will see you all in 2020.

It helped that we had guests from Scotland this past summer and they were lovely enough to bring me 25 little sample bottles of scotch.

Then I was looking for inspiration as to how to make these into an advent calendar. So I bought some little tubes and cut them down to size. Then I made 25 little felt stocking that I bought as a kit from 123stitch.
I wish I’d had longer to make her something a little more fancy, but she did love it. Bibs always make a nice little baby gift.

And last but not least I finished the final stocking in a trio of stockings I made for my friend who so graciously hosted us when we were in England.

I tried to keep the theme the same as the stockings for her siblings, so I used the same snowball edging and polka dot tulle. I hope they like the stocking. I will be mailing it on Monday.

So now you can see why it’s been so long since my last post, I’ve been stitching like mad. And now I’m finally back to my long neglected Wind Moon. I plan on stitching her exclusively until the new year, but it might be a while since you see me again because becaus I will post an update on her once I have a row finish, which is 7 pages from now. But I hope she is worth the wait.

Until then, happy stitching everyone.
I know, I know, it’s been simply ages since I’ve last posted, but I have sold my house, bought a house and moved, so it’s been busy (read: hellish) for the past several weeks.

So first, QS Bubbles.

13th HaED Page Finish was March 15 with 7840 stitches

14th HaED Page Finish was on June 5 with 7220 stitches

15th HaED Page Finish was on June 11 with 3620 stitches.

There are two other fish QS that I plan to stitch to hang in my en-suite. They will go perfect in there.

Speaking of en-suite, I can’t tell you how much I am in love with the new house. We sold and bought literally on the same weekend. This house is so big and so pretty, I’m amazed that it was in our price point.

On a personal note, the house is still for sale. We’ve had one of the slowest months in real estate in years. I really thought this would be a quick process, but it drags on. Fingers crossed that by my next update I will have a sale to report. Anybody want to buy my house?
I can’t endorse Sulky Silver enough for gridding with. It leaves no lines ince it’s pulled out, whichwas an issue for me when I used fishing line. I’m now obsessed with collecting every colour of Sulky Silver that I can find!
QS Bubble by Linda Ravenscroft. It’s 6 full pages and 3 partials. Since I am currently participating in a Stitching Olympics where we are only allowed to have one project at a time, I will have to push this in front of Wind Moon. But this should be fast and I should be back on to Wind Moon by early summer (I hope) and then she will have my full attention.

It’s been snowing heavily here, which means that I’ve spent a lot of time stitching. I’m already well into the next pages and I hope to have a project finish in about 3 weeks. It’s an ambitious prediction, but I’m up for a good challenge.
There is t really much else to report on, so enjoy the pictures and I hope to see you in 3 weeks.
I only have 2 more full pages and 3 partials and this project is done. I started it as March so hopefully I will complete it around her anniversary. The line you see on the piece is from the q snap. This will disappear long before framing. .

It’s been a real struggle to find time to stitch because we are putting the house on the market and moving to a smaller town about1/2 hour away. I can’t believe what an incredible amount of work it is to get the house ready for market, not to mention time consuming.

And to add pressure I joined a group SAL with mini challenges, like a 90 day stitch every day challenge. So far I’ve managed to stitch daily, but it has been a challenge.

I’m looking forward to having this done and framed and I’m very much looking forward to getting back to Wind Moon.

73% done this project is like music to my ears!

First finish of 2019! Generations, page 8. I am now 59% complete. The next page will finish that adorable little rascal foal.
This is my first attempt at updating my blog from my iPad. So far so good. Updating blogspot from a tablet used to be so arduous, but the last time I tried was a few years ago. It appears some changes have taken effect since my last efforts.

Last year I finished the year with 20 page finishes, plus 2 stockings. Not bad at all.

I’ve joined a year long stitch-a-thon and I’m hoping it will help keep me focused on stitching, because a man by the name of Arthur Morgan sidelined my stitching for nearly all of December.

My plan is to finish Generations and then focus on Wind Moon for at least a row. Maybe even two rows, but honestly , that’s an awful lot of blue to focus on for so long. With this challenge the onus is on to finish a project, so it’s a one project at a time challenge. You can, of course, work on more than one, but you only get credit for one. Wish me luck!

Well, my kindreds, I wish you a Happy New Year. May 2019 be filled with happiness, security, floss, fabric and patterns!

There is quite a bit of confetti in these manes, let me tell you, but I can't express in words how much I love the foals little black mane that sticks straight up. It's adorable. And did I mention I am now 1/2 way through this project? I love the halfway mark, it always gives me a sense of accomplishment!

I'm hoping to have one more update by the end of the year so I have three more pages in which to tally for my yearly stats, but I won't come anywhere close to last year. But I'm okay with that. I only ever keep track because I'm curious as to just how much stitching I actually do. And I realize that I do a lot. An awful lot.

Normally I'm quite hard on myself for making myself switch up projects when I get to the end of a cage, but this next page has the foal and the mares face and I just cannot leave them faceless. It's such a peaceful, beautiful pattern that I think Wind Moon will have to wait just a touch longer. But she will be back on my stand in the New Year. I've committed to accepting that she is a multi year project and when I pull her out I will likely stitch a row before she goes back into storage.

Anyway, the weather has turned and now instead of air conditioner stitching, it's stitching under a blanket with a cat on my lap for warmth kind of days. My favourite kind of days, to be honest. Especially when rain is hitting my windows, because then I feel I'm exactly where I should be, which is snuggled up with a needle in hand.

I hope to see you all one more time before the new year. Wish me luck!!!

After my epic trip to England and Scotland, where I really didn't stitch much, except for on the plane, my stitching bug is back with a vengeance. All I want to do is sit and stitch.

This is the first time I've ever stitched down a pattern and not across. I absolutely had to finish the beautiful face on the horse, it seemed a crime to leave the nose and lower face unstitched. This is the full length of the piece. Usually I would switch it up for Wind Moon at this point, but since this project has been neglected for so long, I think I'll stitch another page at least.

I just started using easy guide needles. They are a needle with a tiny ball on the end of them. OMG, love, love love!!! Easy Guide Needles 24 and Easy Guide Needles 26. They aren't cheap, but they are sooo nice to stitch with. They just sort of find the hole in the fabric by themselves, with very little work from me and they cut down on thread splitting or accidentally catching a bit of fabric that belongs to the next hole. The only criticism is they are nearly impossible to thread through stitched threads for finishing a thread, but I keep another needle handy and just thread it in order to run my thread under my stitches. I'm trying my best to post a link to where to buy them. Fingers crossed it works. This is the only actual cross stitch store I've been able to find them on.

Let me know if you've ever tried them and what you think.

This row took me forever to complete, mainly because I started Generations in the middle of it, then made "Welcome Friends" for a wedding gift, then made two Christmas stockings. So I was a little bit distracted. But here it is, 6 and a half pages of Wind Moon done, completing row 3. Her lovely face is finished as well as the bulk of her hair, and in the next row I start on her wings and her beautiful, beautiful dress.

She doesn't look so stark in real life, she's very lush. I tend to have these row finishes very late at night - it's just coming up to 2 in the morning, and I think the light I use to lay the work under is very bright, which leads to the starkness. But I can tell you, she is very lovely up close.

As I mentioned, I made a wedding present, "Welcome Friends" for friends of ours whom we will be staying with in Scotland, but for our lovely hosts in England, I made stockings for their two children.

I wanted to have a snow motif that connected the two, so, with the help of a dear friend who sewed these for me, we picked out the fabric you see below. Alice's stocking is backed with a grey/blue velvet with a blue polka dot tulle over top (the polka dots symbolizing snowflakes). Monty's stocking is a red velvet backing with these adorable cotton balls that look like snowflakes that line the seam of the stocking. The inside is lined with a pale blue polka dot cotton fabric. I think they turned out perfectly. I hope they like them!!
We just had our summer fair and I entered Adrift, Meeting on the Turret Stairs and Welcome Friends. It was the first time I've ever entered any of my work into a fair and guess what? I won all categories, with Adrift taking home the best in division.
This is a terrible photo, because she was laying flat on a table and the lights were directly above her, which makes her look really red, but also puts some strange circles on the piece. But this is what I saw when I went through the fair on the day before it closed.
People were really amazed and I felt really proud bringing home those ribbons and cash prize (A whopping $9) It's nice to be able to show people what cross stitch is capable of being.

I'm on my way to England and Scotland this Friday and I haven't decided what to take with me. I bought a little HaED quick stitch, so I'm either going to take that or Generations, which I haven't worked on in ages and I need to get cracking on that. I guess it will come down to the night before and how much room I have in my carry on as to what I will take. I hear the weather has cooled there, thank goodness, so it seems the perfect time to travel.

Happy stitching to you all and I'll see you all when I get back, at the end of September.
But I've actually been busy stitching like mad.

First off, I FINALLY got around to framing Meeting on the Turret Stairs. This was surprisingly hard to frame, because how I envisioned it in my head just didn't seem to work. I was planning on using a mottled matting in browns to compliment the castle walls, but it just didn't work. So in the end I chose a very, very dark plum, almost black. I felt it brought the shadows to the foreground and showcased the piece in the best light.

I had to take the photo on an angle, because of the reflection, but this was the best shot out of all of them. I'm really happy at the end result and I will hang her on my wall tonight.

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I'm going to England and Scotland in September. I'm so beyond excited for this trip. We are staying with a couple of friends in England and I'm making Christmas stockings for their two children, they aren't quite finished yet, but I hope to have something to show you by the end of the month. And the couple that we are staying with in Scotland are friends who we met on our first cruise and have stayed friends with. They visited us here in Canada and now it's our turn to visit them. They got married back in May, so I when I saw someone stitching this pattern, I knew it would make a perfect gift. Thanks to Amazon.com and their 24 hour delivery, I got it. I changed up the fabric to an 18 count Aida with a sparkle running through it, and stitched this up in one month. For the matting I chose an emerald green.

This is Friends Welcome (In Gaelic) I think it will make a perfect wedding present for them and I can't wait to give it to them.

The sparkle in the fabric doesn't really show, but trust me, it makes a delightful little addition to the piece.

Because I've been busy making this and the stockings, I've had no time to work on my HaED's, although I did get about three pages of Wind Moon completed and I'll post a photo when I have a row completed. I've finished stitching her beautiful face and it does not disappoint. I'll be back to working on my HaED's after my trip and will hopefully have something to show off in October sometime. Until then, this blog might be a bit quiet.

I'll, of course, post photos of the stockings when they are complete.

I hope you are all having a lovely summer and I hope to touch base with you all soon!
Started March 19th and finished April 30th. Due to work, and reno's that were going on, this page took me more time than it usually does, but I'm absolutely loving the results so far. The urge to just keep stitching this when I got to the end of my page was so strong, I literally had to MAKE myself put it away and put out long ignored Wind Moon. With reno's complete, I'm now able to dedicate some good hours to my projects, so I'm hoping it won't be a month and a bit until my next update.
Fingers crossed.

It's just a small update right now, because my office is still the storage area for all of the furniture while we were doing reno's and it's really cramped in here, and my chair is tilted a very strange angle, so I'll close this very small update and confirm that yes, I am still alive and I will see you all very shortly.
Completed on March 17th. Note, it had just come off the Q-snaps when I took this photo, so this is why you see a slight wave in the piece. This was my first mini and I was a bit dubious as to how much detail would be lost on one, but when it came down to it, the only place I really noticed was on the hand that grasped in the knights embrace. Other than that I was really happy with the detail. I remember seeing a photo of a mini Adrift and I really couldn't tell the difference between them.

I'll be taking her to get framed in a few weeks and will post a photo of her ready to be hung on my wall.

A while back I decided to take the time to label where in my cabinet my DMC threat sits. This was an arduous procedure, as I, being to darn fussy for my own good, decided that I needed to cut each label down to size and put a border on it. The reason why I did this was I noticed when it came to changing floss for projects, and as I usually have 2 projects going at the same time, that it was hard to determine where my floss went, without putting all of floss back from both projects and then pulling them again for the old project and the new. This was time consuming and a big fat PITA, so I took the time to label my spaces. What a difference it made! I was able to pop all of my threats from Turret Stairs back within minutes and pull the threads I need for my new project.

New project, you ask? Why yes, I do have one lined up. My next project will be another mini. Generations, by Laura Prindle. I plan on hanging this one in my office at work, when I'm done.
I think it's stunning and the polar opposite of Wind Moon, both in colour and size.

That's a row finish. I'm now 79% done this project. I only have 3 partial pages left, about 3/4 of a page each. The end is in sight. It's funny, because as I was stitching the last page, I was wondering why the knight had one slim grey leg and one fat beige leg. It wasn't 'til I was done and had a photo of my work that I could see that the beige fat leg was actually part of the pillar of the turret. Sometimes when I'm working on a HaED, the pattern doesn't make sense to me, but I just trust it and carry on. It eventually makes sense.

AND I will be continuing to work on this, as Wind Moon is currently at a friend's house, a talented, talented seamstress, who is making me a carrying case for my huge Quantum frame, so I can transport Wind Moon easily to Stitch-n-Bitch on Sundays. She's making me a case that I can sling over my shoulder. I will, of course, <strike>brag</strike> share with you all when I finally get it.

I haven't been stitching as much as I normally do, as I have discovered the wonderful world of Assassins Creed, and have been traveling through London, circa 1869 and killing blighters. It's seriously digging into my stitching time, but I can't help it. I've never played video games before, other than Mahjong and Tetris. It's pretty fun, but the graphics are fantastic. I often forget to do my mission and I just wander aimlessly through the game looking at the sights, which makes me the worst gamer ever. But the shiny will soon wear off and I will be back to my project soon enough.

I promise the stitching bug will bite again, but updates may be slower than usual.

I may just blaze through these next three pages, so hopefully the next update will be a project finish. That's the plan, anyway.

What a year I had, stitching wise. As I'm now back to working full time hours, my stitching time has decreased dramatically, so I doubt I'll ever have as good of a year as 2016 and 2017, as I was, for lack of a better word, a machine. But I will continue to just plug along with my projects and keep on keeping on.

For my past post I have an update on Wind Moon. I had wanted to have 2 pages to show you, but alas, I ran out of time and I will not get this page done by the New Year, so I must admit defeat.

Also, for ease of project, I'll take photos of the page finish with Wind Moon, but I'm only going to take her out of the frame when I have a row finish. I think it will give it more of a oomph at the completing of a row anyway. Worth the wait? Let me know if it isn't.

So here is Page 15 of Wind Moon. Like I said, I rushed forward to try and complete page 16, so about half of page 16 is done, but as it's not a complete page, I won't count it.
Not much to see, and kind of a boring update, but there you go.

Now for the really pretty reveal. Remember the Snow stocking I did? Well here it is, all stitched up. I sent her off at the beginning of the month and the little girl I gave it to was able to enjoy her new stocking for Christmas.

She was beautifully sewn by my friend, Arwen. We used a grey satin base and used a chiffon overlay that had sparkles sewn in to the fabric. The result was stunning. I think of all of my stockings, this is the one I'm the most proud of.

I thought I'd share with you my page finishes for the year. I don't know how many of you are on Facebook, but I belong to a group called 2017 HAED sal page count (now renamed to 2018) and I just edit my page finishes into the document that they have set up on their page.

For 2017 I had a whopping 28 page finishes. Not all of these were full pages, but I kept track of the stitches per page.
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty darn impressed with myself. When it comes to the year end, it doesn't feel like I've stitched this much, but here it is, in black and white. For pictures and posts, just hit the 2017 tag and it will take you through my 2017 posts.

Well that's about everything, my kindred spirits. As 2017 comes to a close, it's with eager anticipation for what 2018 will bring.

Thanks for being a part of my cross stitch journey and I look forward to seeing all of your beautiful projects in 2018! Until then!
7600 Stitches started October 26 and finished November 13th. I'm 62% complete.
I'm sorry this wasn't the clearest photo, I was holding it up by hand in not the best light while trying to avoid a cockatoo on the floor hell bent on biting my feet. Apologies if it's a bit blurry. I had to be very quick and satisfied with whatever I captured.

I only have two more full pages and then 3 partial pages and this project is done. I'm super happy with the quality of the mini and I will probably do Mini's from here on in. It's the only feasible way I will be able to stitch even half of the projects on my wish list.

I can say without hesitation that I am absolutely done with Aida. I find it so stiff and hard to pull my needle through, not to mention the thread I've wasted because of the fraying. I also find my hand and fingers get more tired working with Aida. So yeah, I'm done. I just wish that Lugana did 20 count magic guide, because it's so convenient to just put your fabric into the Q-Snaps, or on to the frame and just start stitching. I'm back to Wind Moon for a page, but I'll probably spend a good 2 hours gridding tonight, as I prefer to grid the entire row. But gridding by hand, I have to say that nothing beats Sulky Silver. That stuff is awesome. It's so petite that you can't see where your grid was, which is something that the thicker red plastic grid would sometimes do.

Anyway, I'm glad to be back on Wind Moon for a few weeks, to give my poor, aching hands a rest, if nothing else.
I received my adjuster for my Lowrey stand to use with my Quantum frame, and my intention was to just do one page and then post a photo. But the page was just all sky and the photo was really nothing special, so I kept going... and going... and going... and now 3 months later I have a row finish AND there is actually something to see, as I have a good chuck of her face done.

I did keep track in my XStitch Journal as I stitched, so the breakdown went as follows:

I was also, aside from being over the moon happy with my new Quantum frame and general stitching area set up, which included a beautiful new recliner chair that I managed to buy from a former stitcher for $100, I was curious as to how long a row would take to stitch. I came in at just over 3 months. Not too shabby!

But I'm looking forward to going back to work on Turret Stairs. I've only got one more full row of her, and then a partial row and then she's done, so the prospect of a project finish is exciting, because I won't be seeing a finish of Wind Moon for several years. But I am loving her. She'll just be a long term relationship, whereas my mini's will just be flings. Just intense, and sometimes frustrating little flings.

So there you have it. Not missing, not abducted by aliens, just been stitching and doing little else.

I should have an update on Turret Stairs within a few weeks.

I know, I know, it's supposed to be a Wind Moon update, but I have a pretty good excuse. I decided to purchase a Quantum Frame, one that would fit my crazy large Wind Moon.

For those of you who don't know what a Quantum frame is, behold! It's the same concept as the Millennium frame, but without the bad customer service and the year long wait. I had my frame within a month of ordering. I can personally say I recommend the Omanik factory. Plus they sent me chocolate in my order. Seriously, who does that?

Because my frame is so long (90 cm) I also ordered the extra long 14" adapter from Sew and Sew, which I am still waiting for.

When I received my frame, I got so excited to load up my project, so I did immediately. Er... well, "immediately" might be stretching the truth by a bit. I attempted to load my project. Several FlossTube tutorial video's later, I had it nice and even on my frame, but it was too big for my stand without my adapter. So I'm waiting for that to arrive before I work on Wind Moon again. I can tell you I'm itching to work on it. So much so I'm considering taking it out of the frame. Please, somebody talk me out of doing this!

But, Wind Moon's loss was Turret Stairs' gain. I'm done another row and am now officially more than half way done the project. And as I'm off to Toronto on Wednesday, this will be the project I take with me, so there may be another Turret update before you see Wind Moon again.

I think I also forgot to post a picture of Winter Hat Owl all framed up in his clever red frame.

Here you go!

That's about all I have to report at this time. Now I must run and do a marathon laundry/packing/cleaning because I fly out tomorrow at 5:50 am, which means I have to be at the airport at 4:50, which means I have to be up at 3 am. *Insert not-impressed emoticon here* I think there is going to be some sleeping on the plane instead of stitching.
And a full row is done.

Thanks to my superior math skills (not) I am actually 12% done, not 1%. There's a reason I'm not a mathematician.

So, I posted an update on the Heaven and Earth page and someone pointed out to me that the colours on this seemed "off". I've seen this project's updates on the HaED Yuku page and it seems just right. I remember when I first saw a wip, I thought it stitched up a little darker than the picture shows, but I still thought it was beautiful. But this person tagged me to a finished mini where it was much brighter than this one. So I went on a bit of a research mission, which is not easy, as this is retired from HaED. I found a comment where someone mentioned that this design was re-charted in 2013.
I'm just wondering if anyone here knows more about that? I'm just curious as to what the difference is.

I bought Indigo Moon and Amethyst Moon when HaED retired Nene Thomas from their list of artists, and I thought I'd had Wind Moon in my stash, but it turns out I did not, so due to Nene just retiring from HaED, Ebay was chock a block full of patterns. So I bought this one and mini Asaria, assuming they would be the latest copies. But now I'm wondering if my copy is an older copy? Both patterns were in pristine condition when I received them, and show no sign of wear. I guess it's always possible that it was someone's old stash, it just seems unlikely.

At this point I'm only just curious, because A) the chance of getting my hands on the re-charted version is slim and B) I'm 7 pages in and not starting again. I don't really care if she's darker, I'm just going to enjoy the journey and see how she turns out. The WIP I saw on the Yuku site was beautiful, so if she turns out half as nice, I will be happy. It just made me go hmmm.

It's coming up to my birthday next month, and it's a biggie. So I've been spoiling myself rotten! I managed to get my hands on a corner clamp for my Lowery stand (Thanks to Gemma at Lowery for that) and I've ordered a Quantum frame that I intend to use on Wind Moon. I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait!!!! Spoiled is me!

Well that's really all the news I have to share at the moment. I hope to have an update of Turret for you in a few short weeks.
